Sculptures
One easy way to improve your outdoor pond’s aesthetic is by adding sculptures or statuary. There’s a wide variety of pieces on the market with styles ranging from faux life to artsy to the simply fanciful. You can use them as center pieces, as accents to your edging material or even hide them among the plantings as a pleasant surprise for the curious pond viewer. And of course you want a piece that can survive the elements so make sure to choose sculptures designed for outdoor use. If you’re going to place the piece inside the pond’s water, make sure to have some foundation materials ready.

Stepping Stones
Many pond building projects include stepping-stones that traverse the span of the pond. They are both aesthetic and practical, providing a safe perch for viewing or for pond maintenance. There are a couple of things to remember when making a stepping stone path. Choose materials that are large, strong and have good traction. Create stable foundations, taking care that each step is level. Even if the stepping-stones are purely ornamental, it could still be a temptation for your viewers. Aesthetics aside, a safe and sturdy path is best.
Benches
Every water garden should be able to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labor and there’s no better way to do this than on convenient seating that’s a part of the pond. Concrete ledges, stone benches, tree stump sections or even a weathered log; you could use anything that suits your pond. Whether it’s on the pond edge or sitting on a deck, a bench is a simple, yet welcome addition to your pond.
Glass Floats
Taking a cue from Japanese pond design, many water gardeners have added glass floats to their ponds. These colorful glass balls are available in an assortment of sizes and vibrant colors. Simply choose the ones you like and drop them into the water. They’re made to last through any weather and require just a bit of cleaning from time to time.
